What we stand for

Victorians deserve a real voice in our government. We are running as independents so we can do just that - represent the voices of the community. Our policy priorities will be guided by consultation with the experts and the broader community, and our vote will be informed by evidence and expertise.

We are running to show that Australia’s political system can be more inclusive. That by imagining systems differently, we can create a pathway for more people to represent their communities and stand up for the issues that affect them.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

We stand for real policy action on climate change – setting targets will not reduce our carbon emissions without clear policies in place to achieve them.

  • We need to set the framework and vision for how we will transition to a net-zero future. An uncertain policy environment is not only bad for ensuring our success, but it is a bad business and investment environment.

  • We support an accelerated transition to renewable energy, with a focus on electrification. This includes supporting households and businesses to transition to electricity, strengthening the grid and supporting the transition to electric vehicles.

  • We believe we need to protect Australia’s unique biodiversity. The government has failed in its duty to ensure our natural environment will live on for future generations to enjoy.

The cost of living is increasing across the board and salaries are not increasing at the same rate. We stand for policies that make it easier for Victorians to afford the ever increasing costs of groceries, power bills, rent and mortgages.

  • Numerous reports have cited anti-competitive behaviour and price gouging as a key driver of the cost of living crisis. The government needs to take action to crack down on anti-competitive behaviour and create options for consumers.

  • We need to take urgent action to address the housing crisis. The government needs to work with state and local governments to address supply and ensure that every Australian has a place to live.

We stand for integrity in government. We believe the government should be accountable to the people they represent – not vested interests. That’s why it’s important to us to run as independents – we are not beholden to any political party, lobby group or special interest. We are seeking only to represent the people of Victoria.

  • The current version of the National Anti-Corruption Commission lacks teeth. We call for an anti-corruption watchdog with real power, including public hearings.

  • We believe the public has a right to know who Members of Parliament meet with and what they discuss. We will call for a national register of lobbyists and regular disclosure requirements, as is required in most other democracies.

  • Similarly, the public deserves to know who is funding political campaigns. We want to see mandatory real time public disclosures on any donation over $2,000.

Domestic abuse and violence against women is a scourge on this country. We stand for policies that put victims first, proper funding to combat domestic abuse and violence against women, and adequate funding for first responders.

We believe the government plays a central role in eliminating the gender pay gap. We advocate for policies that do this by:

  • Holding all employers - including those in Parliament House - to account for gender equal workplace policies, including remuneration and workplace flexibility

  • Ensuring that highly feminised industries are compensated more comparatively to highly masculinised industries

  • Creating pipeline opportunities that will reduce highly gendered industries

  • Changing societal perceptions around gender norms, particularly around caring responsibilities and highly gendered industries

  • We believe that generous and equal access to paid parental leave, that includes superannuation, and encouraging both men and women to take parental leave is essential for gender equality.

  • We advocate for high quality, accessible and affordable child care as a key component of gender equality.

The current Senate system means that Victorian senators act in the best interests of their parties, not the people of Victoria. As Independent Senator for Victoria, we will represent the views of Victorians.

  • We commit to listen to the views of Victorians and act in their best interests - not in the best interests of the party or vested interests.

  • As a member of the crossbench holding the balance of power, will give Victoria an important voice in key national debates.
